Baseball started a few weeks ago, with 2 practices each week that last 90 minutes. As previously noted, I like to hand quilt during practice, because it gives me something to do while I wait. I do take breaks to watch and encourage my child when it is his turn, but it is not always his turn. Anyways, this past Tuesday, I brought my quilt. This one grandmother was telling me how her friend quilts, and recently got a long arm machine. I was quite envious. Some day I hope to have one, just not in the near....15-20 year future. The talk was quite pleasant.
Then the moms started asking questions. I felt put off by their questions. Usually they don't bother me, but the tone in people's voices.
How do you know what to put on the top? This was in reference to the actual quilting. It is really whatever you feel like. I tend to doodle with my marker and find something I like.
How do you know what fabrics to put together? I just look at the colors? I love scrappy, so I just look for the color in the remnant bin.
How do you know where the fabric goes? You just follow the pattern, and do exactly what it says.
After reviewing those, I realize that I would make a horrible quilt teacher. I am a very blunt person. I don't sugarcoat. I ignored most of the comments and went along with my week. Then Friday came. I forgot my bag, so had to channel my inner Linus. I carried my quilt from the car in it's small heap, to the bleachers. The mom that was questioning my quilting, saw On my way! Sit down and said, "Are you still quilting that?" Now, I got quite offensive. Yes, I am still quilting it. I don't sit and quilt all day long. I have a house, 3 kids, and a puppy (which is like having a mobile infant). Instead of gossiping and complaining about baseball, practice time (which I love), and life, I'm going to enjoy some quiet time and relax. I'm out here keeping life weird.
