My Summer Vacation

This past summer, I worked...a lot. I also drove all over the county dropping off resumes to every school.  Many schools, I dropped off at least 10 resumes just in the course of 3 months. Why so many?  Simple.  As an external candidate, I have to submit a resume for each individual job in order to be considered for the job.  If I were an internal hire, I would just need to click a box on the internet and be done. I only got called for 1 teaching interview.  I did not get the job.  I got called for 2 preschool aide jobs this summer, and got neither of those jobs.  I seriously began thinking about a career change.  I love teaching, but maybe teaching is not for me.

Aside from working, I also completed some projects:

First up, I inherited a bunch of classroom books.  I ended up donating 150 of them, recycling one set of textbooks, and saving the rest. I need to go back through them and really organize them, but that can wait.  Many are outdated, but for a new teacher, they wil do.

Then we had a Pokemon birthday, and my dad came to visit. I am quite proud of my dollar store craft.

Next, I found this sideboard on the side of the road.  I could just picture it as a dresser.  We talked to the neighbor who gave us a weird look because it was his garage workbench.  My husband thought I was crazy for wanting to paint it navy blue and stain the top.  I wish I had a picture of his face.

I honestly would not have been able to complete this, if it weren't for Hurricane Hermine.  We finally had some nice weather in Florida, where it wasn't a bajillion degrees outside, and we had a nice breeze.  The clouds and rain helped keep us cool too.  Did I even mention I am not a summer/sunshine person?

I had to tape the quilt back down to keep Chloe from destroying it.

Finally, I had a 60% off Joann's coupon and purchased my muslin for The Beast.  As I was sandwiching it, I found myself humming The Beauty and the Beast song.  It is blue and yellow, and those colors do remind me of the movie.I tried to machine quilt it, but The Beast was too heavy to move.  I hated ripping out those stitches.

To top everything off, we lost our cat of almost 12 years.  We think a coyote got her. She was our orange cat named Zoe.

Now, I am a soccer mom and baseball mom.  We are into our 3rd practice, and not many moms stay for baseball. Maybe they wait in their cars because it is hot at 7-8pm. I guess now, I am forced to take my Celtic Solstice quilt and hand quilt it during practice.
