Irmageddon

If you ever watch the news, then you know every hurricane is going to be the deadliest, most horrific  scene ever.  Irma, was no exception.  Ten days ago, I filled up my car, and a gas can with Premium gas.  Well, that was all the gas station had.  Throughout the week, my goal was to conserve gasoline.  We missed cub scouts and sports practices, reserving travel for the school run and work.  Some how I managed to only use a 1/4 of a tank in 2 days.  By Thursday, the gas stations were sold out.  We toyed with the idea of evacuating, but knowing the current gas shortage in our area, and stand still traffic on the roads, we opted to stay home.  The last place I would want to be in a storm, is in my car on the side of the road.  Not to mention, if anything happens to our house, we would have been here to handle it.  We finished our preparations, and I prepared the treadle.   Let's face it, if the power was going out, I would have something to do for days on end.  It turns out we were the lucky ones.  We never lost power or water, although the lights flickered for 2 hours straight.  However, since I went through all the work of getting the treadle ready, I might as well use it.  So, I sewed 9 patches. I'm not sure what I'm doing with them, but I used the treadle.

Another preparation I made was laundry.  I washed3-5 loads of laundry a day prior to Irma.  As people wore the clothes,I washed them.  If we lost power, we were going to have clean clothes for the following week. Let me say, this was a brilliant idea, and I was able to complete piecing myEn Provence quilt!  One day I'll iron it, and take a pic.  I haven't had time for quilting in months, so this made me happy!  I'm so happy to finally put that quilt behind me.  While I love the mystery quilts, I don't think I'll do another for a while.  Something about working with small pieces, and difficulty lining things up, even with pinning, just takes the joy out of quilting.  Don't get me wrong.  The quilt is beautiful!  I just want to work on projects that don't take a year to just piece.

One last check of my list for the year: I completed reading my 12th book.
