Celtic Solstice and The Beast

Whew.  After much seam ripping, and fabric scrap searching, the Orange Peel quilt, aka "The Beast" is a flimsy.  It measures 111x111.  I love the braided borders.  They look huge, but when the quilt is on the bed, the braids will be along the mattress sides, and the orange peels will be more prominent.

I do have the batting to finish the orange peel, just not the backing fabric.  Now it is pushed off to the side and I am quilting my version of a Celtic Solstice Mystery Quilt.  I made mine with maybe half the blocks.  I was being lazy with this quilt, and did not trim the blocks, so I had to cut some off.  Luckily, it cannot be seen in the picture.  Then the chevron blocks were almost the death of me.  I could not get those blocks the same size to save my life.  In all, I am quite proud that I got this thing together, mistakes and all!
I think I sandwiched it in 2014.  I had absolutely no idea how to quilt it.  All I knew was I wanted it white, and with gradient thread.  I hate the color white, so why I chose white, I have no idea.  I searched for other finished Celtic Solstice quilts looking for inspiration. All I could come up with was little chains in the circles.  I decided that I would let the quilt speak to me, and tell me how to quilt it.

I became impatient, and found some quilting pictures. It looked horrible on the quilt.  It could be that my stitches are huge, but they just did not work for hand quilting.   Last night, I was still working on this one block, used up the thread on the needle, and said no.  I ripped out my work.  It was tedious, and I felt like I would never get this completed.  Out came the seam ripper, and good bye stitches.  While I sat on the couch, I started doodling with my marker, and found something I liked.  I started quilting the block.  I decided that I could always rip it out again. I finished 1 block, and actually liked the design.  Not to mention it could be drawn with 1 single line.  I looked at the back and loved it.  This was meant to be.  However, there are a couple spots I want to fill in.  With this design, I miss one complete section, and would prefer that it gets tacked down.  I told myself that I can go back, and fill it in later.

Here is a picture of one of my quilting buddies.  She loves to sit in my lap, but hates being under anything.  I thought if I covered her up, she would move next to me.  It took her about 5 minutes to have enough of me...or the quilt bothering her.
