This past weekend, I made it my goal to accomplish some quilting. I attacked my "to do" pile next to my machine, I pressed seams open, I appliqued orange peels to their blocks, and in my haste, I cut some of the background blocks too big! Oops! At least they weren't too small. I also trimmed all my strip sets down into pairs...361 pairs to be exact. I was excited I had accomplished so much this weekend. I am ready to make this quilt. I was left with a big crick in my neck. On the bright side, it made vacuuming and mopping the floor a breeze! I am typing this from my laptop while resting my neck. I am itching to do more quilting today, but I know the strain of looking down is going to hurt when I have to look back up.
I started doing the math, and realized, if I did the 16 patch stars, my quilt would have to need 8 pairs in each block, and would end up with 45 blocks. A 5x9 layout isn't quite my thing, I started calculating the star points and decided to scratch that idea. Then I went back to the Jacob's ladder quilt. I can make a 6x6 layout of 9" blocks. It is a decent starting place. I have a lot of left over muslin, so my background has been easily chosen.
I also had some left over scraps. Since I am making a pile of 1.5 inch strips, I trimmed down any leftover pieces to match the size of the strip sets.
This here is my quilting buddy, Chloe. The sewing machine makes her a little neurotic. I cannot lay blocks out on the floor without her going absolutely crazy. I was sewing my last two 2" strip pairs together, and she decided she wanted to lay on them.
